San Gimignano's telltale towers off in the distance
It started raining after we got into town. This is the first rain we've had and the cool temps it brings are a welcome break from the hot days.
We have about 3 hours to kill before Dad arrives and, as luck would have it, there's a festival going on. "Ferie delle Messi," the Medieval Harvest Festival. There are markets set up on the Piazzas and lots of people dressed up in medieval costumes.
And there was a parade…

We sat in a cafe on the Piazza della Cisterna and people watched for a couple of hours.
Hold the phone -- we have a Star Sighting!!!
It's the KING!
The GELATO KING!!
Serggio Dondoli was awarded, "Gelato World Champion" two times in the past 5 years. Lots of people are waving to him, patting him on the back, extolling praises upon him. We're a little intimidated. But how cool would it be to get a pic with The King ….. We decide to go for it.
Ummm, definitely not intimidating
He's a super-friendly, great guy!
(Avery's thinking…did he really lick it?)
Dad is HERE - Yippee!!!!!!!! At the Gelateria. he got Crema di Santa Fina, Quinn got Straciatella, this time I got Blueberry Ricotta and Champaign Grapefruit (O…….M………G, superb), Reese got her fav, white chocolate. Avery got chocolate and tuttiberri.
And he gets some pizza and local beer.
It's mid-afternoon and we decide to head to Montepulciano to our next area of Tuscany to explore. We are staying at another Agriturismo, so looking forward to seeing what it's like!
A couple of food pics from today -
This guy was slicing pork (notice intact head on pig), and making yummy sandwiches he passed through his window.
Avery eating Zuppa di Verdure (basically vegetable soup with extra-large croutons)
She LOVES it!!
Ciao, San Gimignano!!!
