Volterra's Etruscan walls are amazing and we can't get our heads around the fact that they were constructed in the 1200's … that's really old :)
The gelato …… less fascinating. We are starting to get worried that we reached the gelato pinnacle in San Gimignano. But we will soldier on, searching and searching for the equal of Gelateria Dondoli, even if we have to eat gelato every day, in every town, in every corner of Tuscany. We are troopers!
The Piazza dei Priori, again, so ooooold. And even more cool because the day we were there, they happened to have an antique car show set up on the piazza. We immediately all said, "Papa would LOVE this!"
We visited the duomo and admired the frescoes and chapels and the 12th C marble pulpit….
We ate gnocchi and salad (yes, with anchovies!) at a fun little place that serves cafeteria style, where you go through a line with your tray and pick out (that would be "point to," for us) what you want from a variety of foods behind the glass (think Panda Express, but much better).
The front of the restaurant, "La Vecchia Lira," was open to the little street.
We enjoyed our day in Volterra!
