Meownticchiello

We got a lot of sleep last night.  The plan was to crash early and then Dad would wake us all up at midnight to watch the U.S. play Ghana in the World Cup.  Well, the U.S. game wasn't aired in Italy, so he never woke anyone up.  We chalked up 10 hours of zzzzz's and were in the car, driving to Monticchiello at 8:00 a.m.  Anyone who knows us well will find this pretty hard to believe.
We park outside the medieval town gate of Monticchiello by 8:30, looking for double shots of espresso.

The town could not be more charming.  It's teensy and we are some of the first people active here this morning.   Not.  Much.  Happenin'   if you get my drift, i.e., no double shots of espresso.

The lack of human activity made the other, non-human activity highly visible.  This little town was crawling with cats.  That's right, felines.  Everywhere.  Laying on hoods of parked cars.  Licking their paws in doorways.  Darting in front of you out of nowhere (they like to make you jump).      Watching us.

We really, really loved this little hamlet & it's gorgeous pastoral setting.  But the Hitchcockian cat-thing kind of creeped us out and we walked quick-step to the car, slammed the doors & peeled outta there.

It was so cute though.
